3 Things Your Electrician Should Know about Installing Infrared Heaters

Heating Green is the industry leader of infrared radiant heating systems. We recommend having an electrician install your new heating system to ensure it has peak functionality.

Here are 3 things your electrician will need to know to install our heaters so you can be cozy all year long!

1.  We highly recommend having your electrician measure the voltage on-site to ensure we order the right voltage for your space.

Most households have 15 or 20 amps circuits with 120 volt or 240 volt. The only benefit to using 240 volt is the amperage of the heater (wattage / voltage = amperage) will take up less space, leaving more room for other additional heaters! Electrical panels can be mislabeled, so it is always a good idea to measure the voltage with a voltmeter.

If you are looking at our heaters for commercial hot yoga, have your electrician verify the voltage by using a voltmeter on-site. Voltage can range from 208 volts – 277 volts. It is important the voltage matches with your Heating Green heating system and your electric provider in order to install according to local electrical codes. Your electrical panel may limit the size of your system, or if you need to upgrade your electrical panel for the desired temperature.

2. It’s important to find the right thermostat that fits your needs.

Line voltage thermostats are wired directly to the infrared heater and can range from manual, programmable, and smart thermostats! There are options for any application. They have a maximum temperature of ~90° F.

Low voltage thermostats require a few extra controls in order to use the heaters but have a maximum temperature of 120° F. A 24v transformer and at least 1 relay is required and depends on the size of your system if more are required. Our Ecobee thermostat is our most popular low voltage thermostat and the most user friendly!

3. Make sure your infrared heater is installed in the right location.

Infrared is a zone controlled form of heat, and we recommend placing the heater where you will be needing it within the room. Infrared heaters should be installed where a light would be in the space. In a central location the heater will provide an even distribution of heat. Above the island in the kitchen, the bed in the bedroom, and the couch in the living room.

For commercial yoga studios, it is recommended to have an evenly spaced layout as if you are installing invisible lights. This will ensure even heat distribution and each yogi will feel the effects of the heaters.

The thermostat should be installed on an interior wall at chest height, out of direct sunlight. This will ensure the thermostat is getting an accurate reading of the air temperature.

We have heaters for Indoor, outdoor, commercial, and residential applications.
