UV-C phone box: I am sure you all have seen the new gadgets being released with the intent of trying to prevent the covid-19 virus from coming into your home. These boxes are a great way of disinfecting your phone from all the germs on there. Studies show that our phones have up to 18x more bacteria on them than a public bathroom (yuck!) so cleaning your phone in any way is smart. None of the UV-C phone boxes have proven to kill covid-19 however keeping your phone clean is still a good way to reduce exposure to bacteria that could impact your health and weaken your immune system.
Air purification: When it comes to UVC lights, there are two main functions of cleaning: disinfecting the air or the surfaces. Some lights can do both, some only clean the air or only clean surfaces. The products that clean the air look similar to AC units or small fans and they do not admit any light. Because they do not admit any light, it is safe for people to be in the room while it is on. The air purification products are constantly cycling new air through and cleaning it during that process – it is nice to know that while the product is on, your air is being cleaned of harmful bacteria.
Surface cleaning: There are products that clean the air and then there are products that clean the surfaces, Unfortunately, the products that clean surfaces admit a light that is harmful to humans and animals when in the same room so these products can only be turned on when no one else is in the room. These UV products would be great for schools, churches, office buildings, or any space that is not occupied 24 hours of the day. It would be a great way to clean spaces while people are away or sleeping. Potential cleaning costs could be reduced due to not having to clean the space as frequently, the lights could do most of the disinfecting work.
Automatically: Many of the UVC products come with their own controls where you can then program when you would like them to be on. The surface cleaning UVC lights would pair well with a programmable timer where you can schedule when you would like the lights to kick on or off. Considering the safety risk of most of the UVC products, programmable timers are highly recommended to reduce the risk of someone coming in contact with the lights.
Manually: Some smaller UVC products can be manually controlled and are recommended to do so because they have a less-frequent run time, in other words they kill germs faster and don’t need to be on as long. We highly recommend using some sort of timer for the UVC products that admit light, but the air purification products would be just fine being wired to more of a manual control, such as a light switch.
